Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cornerstone part of a denomination or inter-denominational?

No. Cornerstone is a non-denominational, independent, Church of Christ. We're "autonomous" (self-ruling) having no outside governing board or national headquarters. We use no creeds or trappings from any denomination. Our only rule of faith and practice is the Bible, which we believe to be God's inspired Word.

Is Cornerstone charismatic?

No. We don't have the public display of the gifts in our services, such as unknown tongues, personal prophecies (words of knowledge) or fainting.

If Cornerstone isn't a denomination, where did it come from?

Cornerstone's legal name is Cornerstone Church of Christ. It came from a homegrown effort by a group of people who sincerely wanted an independent, "Bible" church in the area. After six months of prayer and study, these people volunteered, gave, and prayed Cornerstone into existence. This core group of people put a lot of effort into getting Cornerstone off the launching pad.

Is Cornerstone guest-friendly?

Yes. Everything we do is done in such a way as to make a person feel welcomed, comfortable, and "anonymous" if they wish. We don't change the message, only the way it's presented: we'll always have relevant, practical Bible lessons, and will sometimes enhance them by having dramas or multimedia productions. What we're doing is trying to give people an unintimidating place to hear the life changing message of Jesus.

Does Cornerstone baptize?

Yes. We believe baptism is by immersion, as practiced in the Bible. Baptism is an important decision, and a person needs to make their own decision regarding salvation. Therefore, we don't baptize people until they reach an age where they understand what it is they are doing. (For more information on immersion as practiced by Cornerstone, see Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-4, Acts 8:26-40.)

How is Cornerstone governed?

A team of individuals, whose duty is to keep Cornerstone on line and moving forward in accordance with her mission, leads Cornerstone. In most churches this group is referred to as Elders. Here we call them The Leadership Team.

What about communion, or the Lord's Supper?

Each Sunday we take part in communion, as we believe the New Testament church practiced it. We do it in remembrance and celebration of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

How does someone join Cornerstone Church?

At Cornerstone, membership is not a status, it's a commitment. If a person wants to become a member, they are asked to attend Cornerstone 101 while working through the Participating Membership Manual. This manual contains personal Bible studies on 5 specific topics crucial to participating membership. We cover all the requirements and specifications in this class. Cornerstone 101 is held on a periodic basis.
